Manises was, throughout the mediaeval centuries, the main centre of production and influence. The concept of sets of crockery did not exist and all the pieces were sold separately. Of them, bowls were the most numerous. They were used in the first place for soups and for wine, but also for many supplementary uses in the kitchen. This is a bowl with a hemispherical body, decorated with the lustre technique, the richest. Its decoration, with a bird of prey in the middle, complemented by small groups of dots inside circles, is wholly Gothic and typical of the 15th and 16th centuries. These birds sometimes have a heraldic character and are accompanied by coats of arms. The line is agile and lively and the composition, though profuse, as corresponds to the typical decorative 'horror vacui', is schematic.
