The church of La Pietat and the Cathedral

Modern

Location icon

'Pellofes' were probably used in the ecclesiastical communities of Vic from the 14th century onwards. Several churches made these brass pieces and they cannot always be attributed with any certainty to a specific community, as we learn from the studies by Gudiol, Colomines and Crusafont. It seems that the churches that made them were La Rodona, El Carme, perhaps Sant Domènec and, above all, La Pietat and the Cathedral. Attributed to La Pietat are the pieces that show a mitre with other complementary symbols such as the arms of Vic, two palm leaves, two cross keys or a small head. The characteristic type of the Cathedral 'pellofes' is that of a tiara over cross keys. In a document of 1450 it states that the 'pellofes' from the Cathedral bore the keys of Saint Peter.
