Candlestick in the Greco-Roman style that remained in use during the entire early mediaeval period, as Catalan Romanesque art makes clear, and survived until the early years of the Gothic period, as we can still see it in several scenes from the Anglo-Catalan psalter, painted by Ferrer Bassa between 1340 and 1348. It is a modest replica of the enamelled pieces and the more sumptuous models made of precious metal, to which it bears a great formal resemblance. It comprises a simple tripod of laminated legs, on which a shaft rises, decorated with two bulb-shaped knots, coming to a point at the top. Originally, it must have had gilt or polychrome covering. Candlesticks were objects used in the illumination of the altar and were placed on either side of the table.
