Side compartment from an altarpiece with Jesus before Pilate

Gothic

Pere Serra

Last quarter of the 14th century

Location icon

It is the side compartment from a lost altarpiece, that entered the Museum in 1910. It shows the episode of the Passion in which Jesus is brought before Pilate, who is sitting on a throne with a pensive look on his face. It is a work done slightly before the panel of Saints Bartholomew and Bernard, and is fully redolent of the silent serene atmosphere of the Italianate Gothic world of the 14th century that made Pere Serra's art famous.
